Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to meet Australian sport industry expectations of a community coach. It includes meeting legal, ethical and job responsibilities and working with others.This unit applies to individuals working in community based coaching roles in the Australian sport industry. This includes individuals working and volunteering in sport clubs and organisations. Specific industry accreditation requirements may apply to sport-specific coaching accreditation and information should be obtained from the relevant National Sporting Organisation (NSO).
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Work in a sport environment.
  • Source and interpret sport and sport-specific industry information to maintain knowledge of Australian sport and sport-specific industry structure and governance arrangements.
  • Source and interpret sport and sport-specific industry information to maintain knowledge of legal and ethical job role responsibilities.
  • Reflect on own coaching practice to confirm legal and ethical job role responsibilities are met.

  • Apply sport-specific industry code of conduct to own coaching practice.
  • Model behaviours expected of a coach in a community sport environment.
  • Carry out work tasks according to organisational policies and procedures.
  • Request, acknowledge and act on feedback provided by others within scope of job role.
  • Identify and resolve workplace problems within scope of job role.
  • Escalate workplace problems outside scope of job role according to organisational policies and procedures.

  • Use active listening and questioning techniques to clarify and confirm understanding.

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
